I am a huge fan of ambient technology. The idea of integrating information into objects which quickly convey information. Last year, the New York Times R&D department built the “Reveal” mirror. Using a camera and Microsoft Kinect software, the mirror can recognized individuals and display pertinent data, such as the calendar.

This data seems really interesting. NASA’s view of the ocean currents is a nice, clean implementation of viewing, literally, world-wide time-series geographical data. Typically, these animations are a bit overwhelming, but I get a very clear sense of the data here.
